The Incomplete

We live in an incomplete world.
Therefore it is imperative to examine the new art which deals with
our lack of closure. The Chelsea Art Museum is proud to present
at this time a ground-breaking exhibition which is so pertinent
to our lives. It will change the way we look at and understand the
creative production of our times.
The Incomplete will explore the open-ended
nature of four generations of contemporary artists and their multiplicity
of artistic language. The artworks in the exhibition constitute
a resistance to the forms of definition and closure represented
by modernism and accentuate the coexistence of incongruous ideas.
Multiple works will be included from each artist representing career
milestones.
The exhibition will present well-known artists in an entirely new
context. Emerging artists in the exhibition seamlessly connect into
a genre that began in the mid-eighties with Ashley Bickerton and
Jeff Koons continuing today with Karen Kilimnik, Xavier Veilhan
and Aya Uekawa.
The works in the exhibition are drawn from the Neumann family collection
and represent the spirit of the collection over the last 20 years.
A fully illustrated catalogue has been published which includes
discourses on the art, statements from the artists and original
works of art offered in recognition of the seminal nature of the
exhibition. The cover of the catalogue, which heads this press release,
was created by Ashley Bickerton.
The exhibition includes the following artists: Haluke
Akakçe, John Armleder, Kristin Baker, Vanessa Beecroft, Michael
Bevilacqua, Ashley Bickerton, James Busby, Sydney Chastain-Chapman,
Nigel Cooke, Devon Costello, Justin Craun, Benjamin Edwards, Jeff
Elrod, Manuel Esnoz, Wendell Gladstone, Ridley Howard, Chris Johanson,
Karen Kilimnik, Jeff Koons, Matthew McCaslin, JP Munro, Eric Parker,
Charlie Roberts, Matthew Ronay, Justin Samson, Tom Sanford, Christian
Schumann, John Simon, Haim Steinbach, Aya Uekawa, Meyer Vaisman,
Xavier Veilhan and Kelli Williams.
