New York, NY – The
Project Room @ Chelsea Art Museum announces the NY concert debut
of the Reflex Ensemble, "Blowing Steam." The concert
takes place within a setting of a contemporary Israeli art exhibition, “Such
Stuff as Dreams are Made On,” curated by Manon Slome. Rehearsals
and workshops with conservatory and university students are open
to the public and begin in February.
Reflex www.ReflexEnsemble.com is
a daring multi-national, thirty-five member ensemble, brainchild
of Israeli-born composer and interdisciplinary artist, Keren
Rosenbaum, that erases the boundaries between art, technology
and live performance, with a unique inner logic and counterpoint
between sound and vision.
This modern
music ensemble, founded in 1998, is dedicated to the vision of
the “New Orchestra." The composition process involves
the creation of artful collaborations of modern technologies
and concepts in music and all visual, performing and theatrical
art forms.
The ensemble
is a vehicle that brings to life Rosenbaum’s vision. Her
compositions are passionate and inviting, and challenge the conventions
of modern music with their own inner-logic and non-compliance
to the traditional rules of harmony and melody. The ensemble
often performs in non-conventional venues which creates a striking
visual counterpart for the music.
"The music
is at times kicking and at times caressing, but constantly intriguing
- and breathing. Not as a metaphor, but literally" (Boaz
Cohen, Yediot Aharonot Daily Newspaper)
“Reflex
is bold and in your face – it’s like the rock music
of contemporary classical music." (Concert attendee)
THE
PROJECT ROOM www.TheProjectRoom.org is
the special projects and education division of the Chelsea
Art Museum, produced and curated by Nina Colosi, that brings
together international emerging and established artists, curators,
technology experts, and cultural and corporate organizations.
Programs include monthly exhibitions & art talks; performing
arts; weekly ‘Introductions: Meet-the-artist’;
educational workshops; the New Art Lab where artists collaborate
to create new work. The Project Room is an incubator of new
ideas, showcasing process and groundbreaking concepts in all
art mediums, and the intersection of the arts through technology.
Reflex and Juilliard Electric Ensemble are resident ensembles.
“BLOWING
STEAM ” is made possible with generous support
from: Office of Cultural Affairs, Consulate General of Israel
in New York; Consulate General of Finland; Yamaha; Brooklyn
College; Flying Machine; Electronic Music Foundation; and Juilliard
School of Music.
